East Hillsborough
With town names like Turkey Creek and Ft. Lonesome and Dover to name a few, the eastern portion of Hillsborough County has always been a desired area to get away from urban Tampa. Dover
In 1845, the year Florida became a State, community members established the first church in the Dover area. The community was at one point known as Cork, named for the Irish birthplace of one of the community’s founders. Due to the closeness of the railroad tracks, Dover became a shipping and trading center for area farms. Oranges constitute a major crop for farmers in the area, and Dover is second only to Plant City in local shipments of strawberries.
